Now, you may have heard of the term COHAT, which stands for comprehensive oral health assessment & treatment. This term refers to both the dental cleaning and the oral exam, followed by the treatment of dental disease. A COHAT procedure is performed while your pet is under anesthesia without causing any pain or discomfort.
A dental prophylaxis (i.e., dental cleaning) involves a thorough cleaning carried out by a veterinarian and their dedicated team. This procedure is key in halting the advancement of periodontal disease.
A comprehensive oral examination that encompasses meticulous periodontal probing, dental radiographs (x-ray images), and a comprehensive assessment of the entire oral cavity, including the tongue, tonsils, and palate. These crucial assessments can only be performed while the patient is under anesthesia, as our pets do not permit access to the back of their mouth or the evaluation of painful areas without posing a risk of injury to them or the veterinary team.
